Mark Pelling is Professor of Risk and Disaster Reduction, Institute of Risk and Disaster Reduction, University College London, UK. His research expertise is in social and institutional aspects of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, predominantly in urban contexts. He led the £3.3m DFID-ESRC Urban Africa: Risk Knowledge programme, 2016-2019. Mark has served as a Coordinating Lead Author for the Cities, Settlements and Key Infrastructure chapter of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 6th Assessment Report and is a member of the Development Team for the Future Earth Knowledge Action Network on Extreme Events and Systemic Risk.
