Caroline Ray lives in Kenya and is Regional Director for ARUP(www.arup.com) in East Africa. 

a private sector practising professional structural and civil engineer who has extensive experience in the design and delivery of multi-disciplinary and multi-sectoral projects in infrastructure and the built environment.  Her early career was London-based where she gained design and construction experience in UK, Europe and North America.  She has worked in Southern and East Africa since 2006, initially moving to Botswana from where she worked on projects throughout southern Africa. She started working on projects in East Africa in 2008 and has been living and working in Nairobi since 2012. She continues to lead projects, working with public sector, donor and philanthropic organisations, UN agencies and private sector.  Her focus lies in the nexus between rapid urbanisation across Africa, and the urgency for climate action. Caroline has championed integration of sustainability, sustainable development, and climate change into mainstream work across the continent. Her particular interest lies in facilitating the application of diverse skill sets to meet multi-disciplinary needs within the development of a sustainable and resilient built environment in Africa.
